Originally consisting only the Hutchinson Brother's Grant and Scott, Frightened Rabbit are now a fourpiece. Heralding from the city of Glasgow, Frightened Rabbit are currently stateside touring the US. Those of you from this side of the Atlantic need not wait too much longer too see the band however. Frightened Rabbit will return to the UK to play some gigs next month, starting in London on April 22nd. HOLV caught up with Grant, one half of the Hutchinson brothers who helped start the band.

HOLV: Firstly how's life for your guys?

GH: Life is good. Sitting in Sunny Austin finally in an air conditioned room after sweating our ears off all day in the heat.

HOLV: For those not to familiar with FF, could you tell us a little about yourselves?

GH: We started life as farmers in the southern regions of Scotland shearing sheep and eating haggis all day. That was tough work so this band thing is really easy compared to that. Scott started as a solo artist but wasn't good enough to play alone so myself, Billy and Andy have since joined the band to make it louder and lovelier!

HOLV: Scotland has many great intimate venues, some of which I'm sure you've played in - where have you enjoyed playing in particular?

GH: We recently played an acoustic gig in  the observatory for a night called concrete campfires. It was one of the most fun shows we've played with guest appearances from Dave Gourley and  Marcus Mackay.

HOLV: You have many great photo's on your homepage of you guys lying about - where were they taken, and who's idea was it?

GH: These were taken in Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow. We got together with photographer Dave Gourley and decided we were too lazy to stand up for photos so we stayed up all night playing cluedo the night before to appear extra tired. We also wanted to avoid the rather dull band pictures which include looking miserable on wasteland, looking miserable in front of a warehouse door and looking miserable on windy moors.

HOLV: How much have the diagnostics of the band changed now that you have four members as opposed to only two?

GH: The rider now seems a lot smaller with 4 people drinking the beer and eating the hummous. Sonically it's a lot more rounded and fuller. We always knew we wanted to add more members especially with the new album having more layers and sounding more vast than the last record. We felt we had to gain extra weight to make the live shows as exciting as before.

HOLV: As brothers do you try to spend time away from each other whilst you are way
from musical activities? Whilst the trials and tribulations of the Gallagher brothers are well documented (and i'm not trying to make comparisons here) one comment that they've made recently is that they simply spend so much time with each other on tour/recording/rehearsals etc that they feel its not really necessary for them to spend time together outside their band. Would this apply to you guys at all?

GH: We have an unwritten rule whilst on tour that we don't speak to each other during the day. Not just because we'd piss each other off but also because we have no new chat because we're together all day and have done the same things! Luckily to this day we've had no major bust ups apart from a slight meltdown in Chapel Hill but we'll not go into that!! Plus the Gallagher brothers seem like arses and we are not!!

Hope this is ok. It may seem a bit rushed but we're in Austin at sxsw and are writing this in between shows. Thanks for asking us to do it.

HOLV: Cheers, best of luck with the tour and album.
